Mamata Banerjee tweeted that the manner in which important bills passed in the Parliament has hurt the federalism of the country. The criticism by West Bengal CM was a reference to the amendment of Right to Information Act Bill, 2019.

The RTI (Amendment) Bill, 2019 allows the Centre to prescribe the term of office, salaries, allowances and other terms and conditions of service of chief information commissioner and information commissioners. The move got criticized by activists. They say it will affect independence and neutrality of the transparency panel.
