No possibility of Rahul continuing as Congress Chief: Veerappa Moily

Veteran Congress leader, the former Union Minister in the Congress-led UPA regime M Veerappa Moily on Friday said there is no possibility of the party President Rahul Gandhi continuing on his post and Congress Working Committee (CWC) would decide on the matter.

"Today, I don't...(think there) is even 1% (possibility) of his coming back," he added. "Unless his resignation is accepted by CWC, speculations...will go on," Moily further said. This statement comes on a day when over 120 functionaries of the party resigned to give Rahul a 'free hand'.

He even said that Congress Working Committee (CWC) will definitely meet before they consider any other name and unless his resignation is accepted by CWC, speculations and his assertions will go on. He refused to comment on some of the Congress leaders calling on AICC UP (East) General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi takes up her brother’s position in case he resigns.

Congress was reduced to just 52 seats in the Lower House of the Parliament while the BJP secured 303 seats. The grand old party faced its biggest defeat in the Gandhi family’s pocket borough of Amethi in Uttar Pradesh where Rahul Gandhi faced a humiliating defeat in the hands of Union Minister and BJP leader Smriti Irani by a margin of 55,000 votes.
