Sanju Samson got into the squad against West Indies as Dhawan ruled out of injury

The Kerala wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson smiles again as he doesn’t need to wait any longer to find himself in the national team after getting dropped in a bizarre fashion. Sanju, earlier, got selected for the T20I series against Bangladesh and had made to warm the bench. Later, he found his name missing for the West Indies’ series and tweeted a smiley emoticon.

Despite not getting an opportunity to prove his credentials, Sanju Samson has initially not named in the India squad for West Indies series, prompting critical reactions from the cricket fraternity.

The selection committee, it emerged, wanted Sanju Samson as a back-up middle-order batsman for the Bangladesh series for which captain Virat Kohli had rested. With the return of Kohli, Samson had to make way for the India captain in the T20I squad. The MSK Prasad-led selection committee faced backlash for dropping Samson with Congress MP Shashi Tharoor and World Cup-winner Harbhajan Singh criticizing the decision.

Now, with Opener Shikhar Dhawan ruled out of the upcoming T20I series against West Indies after he suffered a deep cut on his left knee during a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match against Maharashtra in Surat, Wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson, who got omitted from the squad, had named as Dhawan's replacement.

The T20I series will commence on December 6.
