The sudden Rain surprised Chennai
The sudden rain came as a surprise to the residents. Government officials of Meteorological department said that Kancheepuram received 2 CM during the day.
Rain clouds formed over the region due to convective activity, which usually follows a period of intense heat. Tiruvallur district also received rainfall.
Though it drizzled in some areas of Chennai, ringing in hope of rain over the water-starved metropolis. The thunderstorm activity may decrease from Tuesday and only one or two places in the state may record showers over the next three days.
Despite rain Chennai city has facing drought for three years in a row, there is more pressure on the already plummeting groundwater level.
In some residents are sinking borewells even up-to 600 feet in suburban areas such as Ambattur, Pallavaram, Chromepet and Avadi.
Contractors like S.R. Parthasarathy of Triplicane note that residents are willing to spend ₹2.5 Lakhs to dig 500 feet borewells in Triplicane and Royapettah, But there are areas such as Mylapore, where water is available at 150 feet.
