India captain Virat Kohli broke his silence on ex-wicketkeeper Farokh Engineer's claim that Anushka Sharma served tea by a selector during World Cup, saying she was a "soft target".
"You want to mention something about selectors do that...but why to join her name with it," Kohli said. He clarified that Anushka was sitting in a family box and no selector was there.
“The value system that she has and her beliefs and the nature she has, it won’t allow her to go against rules and protocols,” Kohli added. “So I don’t know why people have wanted to sensationalize stories by taking her name because she’s a soft target. We both had been ignoring it for a while.”
“When the lies got spoken so much all around, they start becoming truths. So you need to speak up at some stage and that’s exactly what happened recently," said Kohli.
Farokh Engineer, in an interview to a national daily, had slammed the Indian selection committee and went on to say that he had seen them serve tea to Anushka during the 2019 ICC World Cup.
