Two-year-old Sujith Wilson, who fell into an abandoned borewell in Tamil Nadu's Tiruchirappalli district on Friday, was found dead, his body decomposing, early this morning after 82 hours of non-stop rescue efforts. The rescue was called off after a stench emanated from the old borewell, suggesting the child had died.
Government officials and rescue workers had been working continuously for the last 80 plus hours to retrieve the child. However, the digging process has stopped at a depth of 65 feet of the borewell. On October 25, Wilson fell into the borewell while playing near his house at about 5:30 pm in Trichy. Later, he slipped further down into the borewell.
Final rites of the two-year-old were completed at the Fathima Pudur cemetery near Tiruchirapalli district of Tamil Nadu. Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisamy and other AIADMK ministers will be reaching Nadukattupatti village near Manapparai to offer condolences to the parents.
