Why is there a delay in the conviction of Nirbhaya rapists

It has been many years since the heinous Nirbhaya crime scene happened and in the meanwhile, enough damage had done by some social animals in various parts of the country. Now, even after the supreme court took his time to issue death convictions on the four rapists that are present in the custody, there has been a delay in that act.

The lawyer of Nirbhaya gangrape convicts, Akshay Thakur and Pawan Singh, has moved a Delhi court alleging that Tihar jail authorities are causing a delay in filing of curative petitions in the Supreme Court. He stated that the jail authorities are yet to release the documents required to file the petitions. The convicts are set to hang on February 1.

The plea is likely to have taken up for hearing on Saturday. The apex court recently dismissed the curative petition for the other two convicts --Vinay Kumar Sharma (26) and Mukesh Singh (32). The hanging of all four is to take place on February 1 at 6 am as per the court order.

A 23-year-old paramedic student, referred to as Nirbhaya, was gang-raped and brutally assaulted on the intervening night of December 16-17, 2012, in a moving bus in south Delhi by six people, before they throw her out on the road.
