Thousands of farmers and women from North Karnataka will take part in the 'Bengaluru Chalo' protest rally. Farmers are upset with the government over the delay in executing the Kalasa-Banduri project.
Karnataka and Goa are at loggerheads over the sharing of Mahadayi river water.
Karnataka aims to execute the Kalasa-Bhanduri Nala project by using surplus water of Mahadayi river to supply drinking water to four parched districts of North Karnataka. The people of Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, and Bagalkot stand to benefit from this project. Karnataka plans to divert 7.56 TMC of Mahadayi water to the Malaprabha river through Kalasa-Banduri canals to meet the drinking water needs. Goa opposes Karnataka's move saying diverting water from Mahadayi river for Kalasa-Bhanduri project will cause a deficit of water and ecological problems.
