The Malayalam movie 2018 is currently running like hot cakes in the state of Kerala, with receipts showing no signs of slowing down. The movie started modestly, earning about Rs. 1.85 crore on its first day, but by the conclusion of its opening weekend, it had made over Rs. 9 crore. The collections on Sunday were around 2.5 times more than they were on Friday, indicating strong word of mouth. Due to the first Sunday's almost full theatre presence, there was a tremendous spillover demand for the movie during the week. The first Monday figures are incredible, and it is anyone's guess where the movie will go from here for its whole run.
2018 is changing history. It's an impressive accomplishment that the movie's first Monday numbers closely resemble its initial Sunday statistics. The film's four-day total of over Rs. 13 crores in collection, and was over Rs. 4 crores on Monday. By the end of the first week, the movie will have made over Rs. 20 crores, and there is a good chance that the second week's box office will be on pace with or higher than the first week's. It might also attempt to break Kerala state records in the long term.
Very few films are able to match Sunday box office totals on Monday. The Kashmir Files is perhaps the final movie that comes to mind. The Kerala people have marketed 2018 as "The Real Kerala Story", and it was coincidentally launched alongside The Kerala Story. Kerala's people's unity for 2018 is reflected in the collections.
