The film was released for Sankranthi this year, on January 11th.
The film had good expectations on it since the trailer was released. The film turned out to be a good hit upon release as well, with audiences loving the film, and Ajith's actions in it. The action and heist sequences of the film have also been received very well.
Manju Warrier is the leading lady of this film, while Ghibran composed the music and background score. The background score turned out to be one of the major highlights of the film, along with the cinematography. Thunivu's Telugu version, Thegimpu, got a decent opening in Telugu but failed to attract any audience from the second day. The main reason for this is the release of mainstream Telugu films on the 12th and 13th. While Thegimpu is not performing well in Telugu, Thunivu continues to be strong in Tamil Nadu.
