James Cameron's Avatar: The Way Of Water is the most popular movie of the year, and it has dominated India's day 1 box office, reinforcing James Cameron's outstanding reputation. The movie set Hollywood movie records in South India but fell short of Avengers: Endgame, Spiderman: No Way Home, Avengers: Infinity War, and Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness to take sixth place among Hollywood movies in the North. Only Avengers: Endgame had a bigger opening weekend than this one overall.
The best circuit was AP/Nizam, where it earned Rs. 11.9 cr. nett in revenue, more than doubling Spiderman: No Way Home's previous record. With a gross revenue of Rs. 2.40 cr., it also set a record in Kerala, outperforming Spiderman: No Way Home by Rs. 1 cr. Other southern states, including Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, fared well, but not spectacularly.
Regarding the North, the movie fared pretty well, but it wasn't exceptional, unusual, or record-breaking. The movie gained Rs. 11 crore net for the Hindi release. In the interiors of India, where the movie did reasonably well, the Hindi version is popular. The movie's IMAX version has the highest occupancy rates, and advance reservations are even more solid.
With the exception of the AP/Nizam circuit, where it set records, Avatar: The Way Of Water is predicted to increase almost across the board in India. Strong initials are a common characteristic of that circuit, and it is typically very hard for films with strong beginnings to expand. Overall, pre-sales are higher than on Friday, and the film is expected to gross roughly Rs. 130 crore nett during the three-day weekend.
