Ryan Reynolds offered congratulations to the movie in his tweet which said, “R-Rated box office congratulatory posts aren’t like the ones you’re used to…” and included a hilarious rendition of the movie’s poster. Reynolds’ tweet was a mimicking of an age-old Hollywood tradition of congratulatory messages by filmmakers/actors to the movie which broke their record. The tradition began in 1977 when Star Wars replaced Jaws at the box office so George Lucas and Steven Spielberg released trade ads congratulating each other. In Reynolds’ take, Joker’s poster with the character dancing on the famous staircase had the names of other high-grossing R-rated movies like Deadpool, Neo, Pennywise, Jesus, and so on.
