In the rivalry between Ayushmann Khurrana
's Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan and Vicky Kaushal's Bhoot Part 1: The Haunted Ship, Khuranna has emerged victorious. On its first opening day at the box office, Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan collected a total of Rs. 9.55 crores, leaving the horror film behind. With his latest film, Ayushmann Khuranna has kept up with his back to back successful films.
Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan also got the added advantage of an opening on Maha Shivratri which is a holiday in many parts of the country.
Tweeting about the film's success trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote, "#ShubhMangalZyadaSaavdhan fares very well on Day 1... #Delhi-#NCR, #Punjab perform best... #Mumbai picks up... Brand #AyushmannKhurrana + #MahaShivratri partial holiday contribute... Important to score on Day 2 and 3... Fri ₹ 9.55 cr. #India biz. #SMZS."
As Adarsh wrote, Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan is already this year's fourth-biggest opening. The film tells the story of a gay couple dealing with societal issues. The film tackles discrimination against homosexuality with great humor and packs a punch. The film stars Ayushmann Khuranna and Jitendra Kumar in the lead roles. Neena Gupta and Gajraj Rao also have pivotal roles in the film. Both Gupta and Rao have previously started in Badhai Ho which also included Ayushmann Khuranna.
If Khuranna's latest film continues to earn a decent collection over the next week or two, it will also be a testament to the Indian film-watching audience. Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan is an important step in Bollywood representing the LGBTQ+ community of India.
The film had written and directed by Hitesh Kewalya.
