Abhay Deol slams Bollywood for voicing for Americans & not for Indians, says 'Follow their lead but not their actions'

Abhay Deol raises his voice against alleged biasedness and tendency of the Bollywood industry to follow the Americans. After a black man, George Floyd, was killed by a white policeman in America, a large-scale movement kick-started demanding justice for him. The movement is named as 'Blackout Tuesday' and in order to show their solidarity with it, people are posting plain black pictures on their social media. While the Hollywood industry stands united and strong against racism, many Bollywood celebrities too have appeared to follow the bandwagon and are speaking for them in large numbers.

This seems to have irked the Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara star and he chose to pen down a long note criticising the industry. Abhay wrote, "Maybe it’s time for these now? Now that “woke” Indian celebrities and the middle class stand in solidarity with fighting systemic racism in America, perhaps they’d see how it manifests in their own backyard? America has exported violence to the world, they have made it a dangerous place, it was inevitable that it would come back marginally."

He further added, "I’m not saying they deserve it, I’m saying look at the picture in its totality. I’m saying support them by calling out the systemic problems in your own country because they turn out to be one and the same thing. I’m saying follow their lead but not their actions. Create your own actions, your own movement, relevant to your own country. In the larger picture, there is no “us” and “them”. There is not a country that’s real. But a planet in peril."

Maybe it’s time for these now? Now that “woke” indian celebrities and the middle class stand in solidarity with fighting systemic racism in America, perhaps they’d see how it manifests in their own backyard? America has exported violence to the world, they have made it a dangerous place, it was but inevitable that it would come back karmically. I’m not saying they deserve it, I’m saying look at the picture in it’s totality. I’m saying support them by calling out the systemic problems in your own country, because they turn out to be one and the same thing. I’m saying follow their lead but not their actions. Create your own actions, your own movement, relevant to your own country. That is what the #blacklivesmatter movement is all about! In the larger picture, there is no “us” and “them”. There is not a country that’s real. But a planet in peril. #migrantlivesmatter #minoritylivesmatter #poorlivesmatter #blacklivesmatter
