Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui And CEO Of Coca Cola India Face Legal Action For Allegedly ‘Hurting Sentiments’ Of Bengali Community

Nawazuddin Siddiqui and the CEO of Coca-Cola's Indian division have been accused of hurting the sentiments of the Bengali community. The complaint was filed by a Kolkata-based lawyer against the actor's appearance in a Sprite ad that was dubbed in Bengali. The original ad, which was shot in Hindi, did not raise any objections. The ad promotes the new feature of the drink's bottle that allows the consumer to scan the QR code and listen to jokes.

Advocate Dibyayan Banerji filed the complaint at the Calcutta High Court. It states that the line in the Bengali dubbing of the ad "hurts the sentiments of the Bengali community." The line in question is a joke that translates to "if Bengalis don’t get anything easily, they sleep hungry." The company has removed the Bengali version of the ad featuring Nawazuddin after the complaint. It has issued a note expressing regret for the ad campaign.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui is awaiting the release of several upcoming projects. These include Sudhir Mishra's Afwaah, which stars him alongside Bhumi Pednekar. He also has Kangana Ranaut's production, Tiku Weds Sheru. He will also appear in Kushan Nandy's Jogira Sa Ra Ra and Noorani Chehra alongside Nupur Sanon.

The complaint raises concerns over the use of language and jokes in advertising that may offend certain communities. It remains to be seen how this case will be resolved and what impact it will have on future advertising campaigns.
