'Ponniyin Selvan,' the masterpiece of Mani Ratnam's direction, is slated to hit the big screen on September 30. The tale of 'Ponniyin Selvan,' adapted from the Tamil novel based on the actual epic theatre, concentrates on the Chola dynasty's dominance and power.

 
Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Trisha, and Aishwarya Rai play the key roles in the film, while Prabhu, Jayaram, Sarathkumar, Parthiban, Nasser, Prakash Raj, Rahman, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Vikram Prabhu, and Sobhita Dhulipala play supporting parts.
 
Rahman plays Madhurandhakar, a Chola emperor who reigned for a brief period. In a recent interview with a media outlet, the actor allegedly disclosed that he was offered the role in 'Ponniyin Selvan 25 years ago when it was intended to be developed into a TV series.
 
He stated that he was waiting for a role in the film when Mani Ratnam originally announced it. He soon received a call from the director informing him that he would be playing the character of Madhurandhakar. Rahman allegedly gave a few facts about his sequences with actor Parthiban while reminiscing about the film's production.
 
He allegedly stated that a particular dialogue of his contained a list of names that had to be delivered exclusively in that certain order and that remembering that piece of information while performing was difficult. He also stated that the sequence was shot when he was walking along the long line of steps placed on the sets. He allegedly stated that Mani Ratnam and other actors on set applauded his performance in that specific sequence, which he accomplished in four takes.
