Actress and politician Hema Malini says Kent's Controversial new ad is inappropriate and does not resonate with her values

Kent RO Systems recently raised many eyebrows when it decided to upload a new advertisement for its Atta and Dough Maker. The advertisement in question asks people to use the machine to make atta as maids can infect it with their dirty hands. Netizens quickly called out the company for such a classist comment. The advertisement also carries the image of Hema Malini as she is the brand ambassador for the company. Veteran actor and BJP Lawmaker Hema Malini have now released a statement where she called the advertisement inappropriate. A Twitter user also highlighted how the initial cases of Coronavirus infection in India came from a privileged and upper-class part of the society and not from maids.

Taking to Twitter the Sholay actress wrote, "Views expressed by the recent advertisement of Kent Atta by @KentROSystems do not resonate with my values and are inappropriate, The Chairman has already tendered a public apology for the mistake. I hereby wish to put on record that I respect and stand by all sections of society." Hema Malini also added the statement by the company's chairman as a part of her apology. The statement reads, "The Chairman of the company does not endorse such views as well. Therefore, the company and the chairman have tendered a public apology for the mistake which is attached herewith. The advertisement has also been withdrawn by the company." Mahesh Gupta the chairman of Kent RO Systems also released an official apology. Gupta wrote, "Please accept our sincere apologies for having published the Ad of Kent Atta & Bread Maker. It was unintentional but wrongly communicated and it has been withdrawn."
