Directed by Mani Ratnam, Ponniyin Selvan is gearing up for release. Aishwarya Rai, Vikram, Karthi, Trisha, Aishwarya Lakshmi, Jayaram, Jayamravi, Prakash Raj, Parthipan, Sarathkumar, Babu Antony, Ashwin Kakumanu, Riyaz Khan, Lal, Vikram Prabhu, Kishore, Shobhita Dhoolipala, Jayachitra and a huge star cast are expected.

 
In the film, Aishwarya plays the role of Nandini, the queen of Pazhuvur in the Chola Empire. Mani Ratnam says that the first actress he had in mind as Nandini was Rekha.
 
It was in 1994 that Ponniyin Selvan set out to do it for the first time. Rekha was what I had in mind as the queen of Pashuvoor. But that day it did not happen. The film was made possible more than sixteen years ago. Finally reached Aishwarya. In today's situation, no other heroine than Aishwarya came to mind - reveals Mani Ratnam.
 
The film is based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's historical novel. The film, which is being prepared with an investment of 500 crores, is jointly produced by Mani Ratnam's Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions. The first part of the film will release on September 30.
 
Music by A.R. Rahman and cinematography by Ravi Varman. Ilango Kumaravel is the screenwriter. The film is made in 5 languages Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.
