Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar played lead roles in director Aanand L Rai. The film was released in theatreson August 11. In a recent interview, Aksha Kumar said that Raksha Bandhan is the best film in his career.
Speaking to The Times of India, Akshay Kumar said, "The best part about the film is its simplicity. I have been saying this is the best film of my career. I am not someone who cries watching films, but this movie has made me cry so much, and it makes you realise that we all have been going so fast that we have forgotten to invest time in our relationships."
His wife Twinkle Khanna shared a glowing review of Raksha Bandan. "A movie about the India we all pretend doesn’t exist. A reality that we wish didn’t exist. We have changed terms, from ‘dowry’ to ‘gifts’ but in homes across social-economic strata, variations of the custom loom large. The wonderful Aanand Rai has skilfully built a world where siblings tease each other, support each other and ultimately triumph together. The challenge with altering mindsets is that these conversations circulate largely among the already-converted. It’s perhaps only cinema that has the power to burrow into the minds and hearts of people across the board. Raksha Bandhan may make you smile and crack up, but I dare you to leave the theatre dry-eyed:) (sic)," her review read.
