Amid Proposals To Reform The Industry, Telugu Film Shootings May Stop From August 1

Telugu filmmakers are considering halting filming beginning August 1 to "restructure the business" since production expenses have skyrocketed while theatre profits have plummeted. Several manufacturers met in Hyderabad over the previous two days. They resolved to take tough measures to ensure the industry's survival.

According to a prominent producer, the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce has been alerted of their plan to cease filming beginning August 1. "With the exception of blockbuster films like RRR, KGF-2, and one or two more, theatrical revenues have slumped to an appalling low of 20%." This has had a significant impact on the sector, which was already suffering from the COVID impact. "Everyone is now concerned about the industry's long-term viability in such a scenario," the producer remarked.

Producers have banded together to explore strategies for restructuring the entire business to assure its existence, he noted.

The producers have decided not to put any new film on OTT services for at least 10 weeks following its theatrical debut.

"Now, even big-name movies are making it to OTT within three weeks." This contributes to the decline in theatre profits. According to another well-known producer, small (budget) films cannot thrive in such a market.

"We will have additional discussions in the coming days and make a final decision on the way forward," the producer stated.
