Legendary director Mani Ratnam is trying to adapt Tamil historical novel Ponniyin Selvan to a movie for several years. It looks like he is inching close to his dream as Ponniyin Selvan is expected to commence the shooting soon.

Telugu actress Anushka Shetty has been approached by the makers to play a pivotal role in the film. The latest update is that Anushka Shetty has walked out of Mani Ratnam’s project and the reason is a bit shocking to everyone.
Several speculations are made about the reason that made her not accept this mega-budget film. As per the latest buzz, Anushka walked out of Ponniyin Selvan after lyricist Vairamuthu injection to the movie. Vairamuthu is a veteran lyric writer who singer Chinmayi alleged of sexual abuse.
Ponniyin Selvan is the film based on Kalki Krishnamoorthy's epic novel set in the backdrop of the Chola Kingdom.
Aishwarya Rai is on the board to play the female lead in Ponniyin Selvan. And she will be playing dual roles as the famous Nandhini and her mute mother the queen Mandakini Devi.
Ponniyin Selvan also features Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Amala Paul, Keerthy Suresh, Jayaram, and Mohan Babu in other roles.
The film regular shooting starts in November and Produced by Lyca Productions.
