On May 1, Bollywood star Alia Bhatt made her debut at the MET Gala 2023. In a tribute to the late designer Karl Lagerfeld, the actress wore a Prabal Gurung outfit to the occasion. Gurung accompanied the actress as she confidently made her way down the red carpet.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art published an inside video in which celebrities were seen admiring the Karl Lagerfeld exhibit. In the video, Alia Bhatt appeared alongside Penelope Cruz, Sydney Sweeney, Kristen Stewart, Emily Ratajkowski, Emily Blunt, Gisele Bundchen, Usher, and designer Prabal Gurung. Alia decided to have the classic photo taken on the stairs of the Metropolitan Art Museum in New York City with Prabal Gurung. Alia was inspired by the 1992 Chanel wedding attire worn by supermodel Claudia Schiffer. One lakh white pearls made up the whole bodice and skirt of the Prabal Gurung sleeveless garment. With pointed pearl and stone earrings, white gloves, and other accessories, she added lustre. Alia went with a center-parted half-up, half-down hairstyle and finished her look with a nude lip and bronze-toned cheek accents. With this, Alia hit all the right notes, keeping things simple and secure while yet looking gorgeous.
Prabal Gurung wrote in his Instagram post, “We’ve talked about a Met moment for a long time. I have invited her before, but she’s always been wise enough to say let’s wait. This time, however, she felt it was the right moment, so she said yes, and off we went to our wildest imaginations…”
He continued, "It was my dearest friend Karan Johar’s 40th birthday in Mumbai, where I first met Alia. I had heard rave reviews about her through him and my brother Pravesh, who was assisting Karan in her debut film. I was immediately taken by her when I met her. A petite ingénue whose simmering fire within her was palpable to all of us. One film after another, she has surpassed anyone’s expectations and thrilled us with her creative genius. He stated, “For me, Chanel couture brides have been the most iconic brides in fashion. So we chose Claudia Schiffer’s 1992 Chanel bridal look as an inspiration.”
He remarked of Alia Bhatt, who he described as having a "kind, generous soul and heart". He said, “Alia, forever grateful we will have this for posterity. Thank you for the beautiful memory. Been a fan of your talent for the longest time and of your generous, kind soul and heart; a grateful friend.”
