The Atrangi Re cast comprises Sara Ali Khan, Akshay Kumar, and Dhanush. In the film, Sara Ali Khan will romance both Akshay Kumar and Dhanush. Sona Mohapatra commented on the pairing. She stated how nobody questions an older man getting paired opposite a younger girl on screen but everyone jokes about older women romancing younger men.
To explain her stand, Sona referred to the jokes made when Priyanka Chopra announced her marriage to a younger Nick Jonas. Also talking about the age gap between the cast of Atrangi Re, the singer questioned whether Madhuri Dixit would get cast opposite a 24 year-old.
The singer posted on Twitter about this. Her tweet read. “Can a 52 year old Madhuri Dixit get cast in a romance opposite a 24 year old young boy any time soon, #India ?I’m okay with this but would love a world that would play fair. Remember the idiotic jokes & trolling poor Priyanka Chopra subjected to when she married Nick Jonas.”
According to a Mumbai Mirror report, Sara will feature in a double role. Her character will reportedly romance both Akshay Kumar and Dhanush's characters in two different eras.
A source quoted by Mumbai Mirror said. “While Atrangi Re is primarily a love story set in the heartland, laced with humour, the storytelling is in a zone the filmmaker has not attempted before. The screenplay follows a non-linear narrative of two romances from different timelines running in the parallel.”
Directed by Aanand L Rai, Atrangi Re is set to hit the theatres on Valentine’s Day 2021.
