Atrangi Re is Aanand L Rai’s seventh directorial. It stars Sara Ali Khan, Dhanush, and Akshay Kumar in the lead roles. But, there were media reports that suggested Akshay Kumar is not a lead in the film but instead has a cameo. This was because when the makers and Akshay Kumar shared the teaser video, Akshay Kumar’s name was towards the end.
Sara and Dhanush’s names came first. This led to speculations that the actor has a cameo or a short appearance in the film. Recently in an interview, the director debunked these rumors. He said. “It’s not a cameo, but a very special character that is important to the narrative.”
The casting also raised questions about the possibility of a love triangle. Aanand L Rai said that the genre cannot be confined. “The title means ‘funnily weird’. So, I needed a cast that’d raise questions. All my characters are ‘funnily weird’ and it’s their emotional journey,” he said. Himanshu Sharma penned the script. This marks Aanand’s second venture with Dhanush after Raanjhanaa. He has also reunited with AR Rahman for the film. The film wraps up shoot in July. Akshay Kumar is also producing the film with Bhushan Kumar, and the director.
