Bellbottom, the much-anticipated Akshay Kumar film, was released in Indian theatres yesterday. The film’s producers distributed Bellbottom in India in 1600 theatres. Yet, with restricted seating capacity, the venture’s profitability will undoubtedly be affected.
Now reports suggest that the film might have a digital release after four weeks of its release. According to Bollywood Hungama, Amazon Prime Video has already acquired streaming rights.
“The makers of Bellbottom and Akshay Kumar have the option to release the film on the digital platform after four weeks from its theatrical release. In fact, Amazon Prime Video has already acquired the streaming rights of Bellbottom and will premiere the film on its OTT streaming platform;” a source said the Bollywood Hungama.
The source also shared the details of how the makers reached to make the decision. “The producer of Bellbottom Vashu Bhagnani wanted to premiere the film on OTT two weeks after its release. However, with national multiplex chains negotiating the theatrical release and terms, Bhagnani finally settled for four weeks;” added the source.
According to the terms of the deal, after September 15, Pooja Entertainment, the film’s producers, can debut the film on Amazon Prime Video. But, the film’s creators and the streaming site have yet to set a specific release date.
According to reports, the film will have a digital release in the last week of September.
