Bhumi Pednekar Supports Same-Sex Marriages In India; Calls Herself An Ally Of The Community

Bhumi Pednekar, who recently won her third Filmfare Award for her performance in Badhaai Do, has come out in support of same-sex marriage in India. Bhumi played the role of a lesbian in the film, and she stated that she was an ally of the LGBTQIA+ community. She said that love is love and that we should all have equality in every aspect of life. She added that it is not up to us to have biases and pass judgements on what somebody's life deserves to be.

In an interview with ETimes, Bhumi said that winning the Filmfare award was more like a personal victory. But the love the film received as a whole was a victory for the community. She said that the success and love the film has received made her realize that our country is changing and our cinema is part of the changing narrative. Badhaai Do is an extremely important film for her, as she has a part of her soul attached to it, given that she has so many friends who are from the LGBTQIA+ community. She got a chance to represent them in a small way, and it makes her feel that she was part of the solution to their challenges. Bhumi Pednekar won her previous Best Actress (Critics) trophy for her role in Sonchiriya (2019). She also acquired the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut in 2016 for her first film Dum Laga Ke Haisha opposite Ayushmann Khurrana. After winning the award for Badhaai Do, Bhumi posted her gratitude on Instagram. She said that the film's team stood by their queer friends and hoped that the film contributed to making this world a fair and equal place for all. Bhumi was last seen in the films Bheed and Afwaah. Additionally, she has films starring Arjun Kapoor that will be released later this year. It includes Bhakshak, The Lady Killer, and Meri Patni Ka Remake.
