Bhumi Pednekar, Tamannaah Bhatia, and Huma Qureshi have opened up about the gender pay gap in Bollywood. Bhumi Pednekar had a fantastic 2022, releasing three albums. The actress starred alongside Rajkummar Rao in "Badhaai Do." She received high praise from critics. There was "Raksha Bandhan" after that. This month her OTT launched "Govinda Naam Mera" released. The movie stars the actress and Vicky Kaushal.
Even though she's doing some fantastic work, Bhumi recently discussed the pay gap in Bollywood in an interview with the BBC. The actor claimed that female performers receive as little as 1% of the salary earned by the hero. Alongside Alaya F, Tamannaah Bhatia, Huma Qureshi, and Rakul Preet Singh, Bhumi participated in a round table discussion. Bhumi stated that her performance may get recognized in the film. But she said it is typical for her to not receive compensation on par with that of her co-star. Even in the west, there was inequality, but men defended women. They stated that they would either accept a pay reduction or receive the same compensation.
There is only one way to combat this, according to Tamannaah Bhatia. Her solution is to create a robust market for oneself. On the other side, Rakul Preet Singh stated that even if a female performer is in the lead role, she won't receive the same pay as her male counterparts.
Huma Qureshi had a somewhat different opinion. She said that we also need to realize that men have through time developed a market for themselves. As a result, they are unable to pitch 10 female-centric projects using the 100s that the men have.
