Billie Eilish breaks record with ‘No Time To Die’ James Bond theme

Billie Eilish’s new single achieved the biggest opening week of all time for a James Bond theme in the British charts.

‘No Time To Die’ reached directly at the number one position, according to the Official Singles Chart. The song marks the 18-year-old singer’s first British chart-topper.

The song, co-written and produced by Eilish and her brother Finneas, obtained 90,000 chart sales and 10.6 million streams. This made it the biggest opening week for a single so far in 2020.

Last month, Eilish took over the Grammys. She took home five awards including the "big four" awards. These included Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best New Artist.

She also won the best international female solo artist at this week's Brit Awards. She performed her Bond song during the ceremony.

Eilish is the youngest artist to record a James Bond track.

Speaking to BBC Breakfast, Eilish said that her brother and music partner Finneas O'Connell went through an "intense amount of writer's block" around the time when they asked to produce the track.

Following an unsuccessful shot at writing the song in a recording studio, they came up with it while on the road.

"We wrote and recorded the Bond song on a tour bus in Texas," O'Connell said.

The 25th installment of the British spy series sees Bond brought out of retirement by his old friend and CIA agent Felix Leiter.

Rami Malek plays the villain in the installment. He won the best actor Oscar for his portrayal of Queen’s lead singer Freddie Mercury in “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
