Due to the shut down of the theaters, many films are now opting for a direct digital release. The OTT platforms are cashing in big time on this phenomenon. They are acquiring the rights of a few big-ticket films and announcing their release dates to create excitement and also to expand their user base. Amazon Prime Video was the first one to start this trend. Later, Hotstar followed it as well. Now, streaming giant Netflix is all set to announce the lineup of its release. We hear that Netflix will reveal about 15 originals, direct-to-OTT films, and web series on July 16.
According to the sources, three of those 15 titles will be of Telugu language. It is already known that Netflix bagged the streaming rights of Sathya Dev's Uma Maheshwara Ugra Roopasya. We have to see what the other two movies are. Janhvi Kapoor's Kargil Girl will also have a direct release on Netflix. We can now expect a bunch of Hindi films opting for a direct release on this platform. Apparently, there are a few Tamil and Malayalam titles on the list as well.
Netflix's announcement of 15 titles is highest in the Indian entertainment market as of now. When Prime announced, it declared the release of eight films. Even Hotstar announced seven releases. But Netflix outnumbered them and is coming up with 15 titles. That is a smart move by the best player in the market.
