Case filed on actor Sreenivasan for making insensitive comments on Kerala Anganwadi teachers

Actor Sreenivasan often makes it to the headlines by giving controversial statements. Earlier, he stated that there is no gender inequality in the Malayalam cinema. He then said that he couldn't see the need for a collective like women in cinema. Now, he got into a controversy by making insensitive comments on Anganwadi workers. Offended by this act, the Kerala Women’s Commission lodged a case against Sreenivasan. They filed the case based on the complaint given by Anganwadi teachers.
Speaking in an interview given to a private channel, Sreenivasan said that people without any educational background get appointed as Anganwadi teachers. He then compared Anganwadi teachers with the teachers of Japan. He said that people who know psychology and psychiatry get appointed as teachers for kindergarten children in Japan. He further added that the kids who grow amongst Anganwadi teachers will only become them in the future.
These statements offended the Anganwadi teachers of Kerala. Thus, they have filed a complaint against him. Even common people are firing on Sreenivasan for making such insensitive comments. They are demanding an apology from him. The cops will soon seek an explanation from Sreenivasan.
In fact, Anganwadi teachers played a primary role in handling the COVID-19 pandemic. They have been supplying mid-day meals and conducting online classes for the children. They have delivered mid-day meals to over three lakh children during the lockdown. Kerala Anganwadi teachers are the only ones to achieve this feat. There are 33, 115 Anganwadi workers in Kerala. They are recently trained to give online classes to children. They are also trained to conduct classes with expectant mothers.
