The title song for the much-awaited movie of the year Chhapaak, starring Deepika Padukone
had released online on Friday. The song depicts the emotional journey of the character, played by Deepika Padukone, Malti as she rises above her trauma and her pain and goes on to become a figure of strength and empowerment.
Gulzar has written the songs, Shankar Ehsaan Loy composed the music and the song sung by Arjit Singh. Deepika Padukone, while talking about the song, called it the soul and thread of the film that binds it together. Laxmi Agarwal, an acid attack survivor and an activist, whose story inspired the making of the film was also present at the launch. “Whenever I listen to this song, I get goosebumps,” Deepika said. The actor is portraying the role of an acid attack survivor in the film.
The makers of the film posted a still from the film, featuring Deepika, earlier on Friday. The tweet read, "In a moment. In a splash. Life changes forever... #Chhapaak Title track out today."
Deepika also shared a poster for the upcoming film on Thursday, captioning it as, "Malti. Unfettered. Uninhibited. Unputdownable. Ab voh kush hai toh hai!#Chhapaak in theaters on 10th January 2020!" She has also shared a video on Twitter that contains snippets from the upcoming movie, "Agar milta hi nahin toh phikta bhi nahin... #Chhapaak releases in cinemas on 10th January 2020!” the tweet read.
The movie was inspired by Laxmi Agarwal, who was attacked in 2005 at the tender age of 15 and had to undergo several surgeries. She is now an activist and helps acid attack survivors and promotes campaigns to stop such attacks.
The film also stars Vikram Massey and is produced by Fox Star Studios, Deepika Padukone's KA production, Meghna and Govind Singh Sandhu's Mriga Films. Directed by Meghna Gulzar, the film is set to release on 10th January 2020.
