All the cinephiles of India are eagerly waiting for the inauguration of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI). Every year, thousands of cine buffs visit Goa to watch some of the finest films made across the globe. One of the biggest categories of IFFI is the International Competition. The winner of this section will win the prestigious Golden Peacock Award.
This year, there are 15 films which are contesting in this category. 13 of them are foreign films and two of them are Indian films. They are Balloon (China), Chronology (Turkey), Lillian (Austria), Marighella (Brazil), Out Stealing Horses (Norway-Sweden-Denmark), Particles (France-Switzerland), Stories from the Chestnut Woods (Slovenia), The Science of Fictions (Indonesia-Malaysia-France), Steed (Mongolia), Captives (Hungary), Watch List (Philippines), Antigone (Canada), Son-Mother (Iran-Czech Republic), Mai Ghat: Crime No. 103/2005 (India) and Jallikattu (India).
A special jury got appointed to select the winner of this competition. Popular cinematographer and former Academy President, John Bailey will head the jury which comprises of other acclaimed filmmakers like Robin Campillo (France), Zhang Yang (China), Lynne Ramsay (Scotland) and Ramesh Sippy (India). The winner will get declared on the last day of the festival. IFFI 2019 will begin on the 20th of November and ends on November 28.
