Gharana Mogudu featured Nagma and Vani Vishwanath as the female leads. Rao Gopal Rao and Kaikala Satyanarayana played the other pivotal roles in the movie. The story revolves around a female industrialist who married her factory employee to teach him a lesson. In return, she falls for him eventually but it becomes too late for her. It was an official remake of 1986 Kannada film Anuraga Aralithu. K. Devi Vara Prasad has produced the film under the banner Devi Film Productions.
The film received wide acclaim upon its release. It went on to become the biggest hit of South India in those times. It is the first South Indian film to collect a share of more than Rs. 10 crores. The film collected more than Rs. 10.8 crores at the box office. It had 100 days in 56 centers and 175 days run in three centers. It was later dubbed into Malayalam as Hey Hero. It was a hit there too and ran for more than 175 days in the same theatre in Trivandrum.
