The coronavirus panic has caught up the entire country. People are not coming out without wearing masks. They are avoiding roaming in crowded places like malls, cinema halls, bus stations, and Airports. This is severely affecting the business of films. Many producers and distributors are opining that people might not visit the theatres in the coming days if corona spreads to a larger extent.
Popular producer Suresh Babu said, "Right now, there are no great films running in the theatres. Even the latest Hindi film Baaghi 3 is not doing well at the box office. Trade analysts expected it to collect Rs. 20 crores but it collected only Rs. 15 crores till now. Definitely, there is an effect of corona about 25% regarding the theatre occupancies. The big films start releasing by the end of this month. If the corona fear still prevails by that time, the industry will witness huge losses."
Noted exhibitor and producer Sunil Narang said that from the past 10 days, people are not visiting the theatres even after booking the tickets. That is how they are afraid of the corona. A few other distributors and exhibitors of Andhra Pradesh have also opined that the intermediate exams, AP Municipal Elections and lack of good films are also affecting the theatre occupancies apart from the fear of the corona.
