COVID-19: Uncertainty of release date hovers over Sandalwood

The coronavirus outbreak has brought Sandalwood to its knees; the industry players question the return of normalcy.

COVID-19: Uncertainty of release date hovers over Sandalwood

The coronavirus outbreak has brought the cinema industry to a halt. Sandalwood faces uncertainty as most of its big releases are now shelved. Films like Roberrt, Salaga, Yuvarathnaa and Kotigobba 3 are facing issues over the release date.
 
A popular daily quoted the producer of the film Kotigobba 3. Soorappa Babu said, "The coronavirus has affected the entire world. We don't know what to do; we just have to wait." A song shoot of Koitgobba 3 is still pending. The song is to feature Kichcha Sudeep and Madonna Sebastian. The film was going to have a theatrical release in May, things seem uncertain now. Recently there were rumors of the film being acquired by a Kannada Channel for a sum of Rs 9 crores.
 
Roberrt was to hit the theatres on April 9th. With the lockdown, the makers decided on May 3rd as the release date. Now, however, the makers are unsure. Roberrt stars Darshan, Vinod Prabhakar, Asha Bhat, Sonali Monteiro and Aishwarya Prasad in lead roles. Recently, the Challenging star Darshan had tweeted, “May your faith in God bring peace and prosperity into your lives. Have a blessed Good Friday. #Roberrt will soon come to you when things are back to normal. Stay Home & Stay Safe."
 
Salaga is Duniya Vijay's directorial debut. The film was to hit the theatres in March. The lockdown has affected its release. Apart from Duniya Vijay, the film stars actors Sanjana Anand, Dhananjay and Nagabhushan.
 
Yuvarathnaa is another film that is facing release date issues. The Puneeth Rajkumar starrer film's shooting is over. However, it is awaiting a release date. The much-awaited film was to hit the theatres in April. But the release date stands postponed.
 
With the films of all the big names of the industry facing release issues, Sandalwood seems to be under financial pressure. They all hope for normalcy to return after the lockdown is over.
