Deepika Padukone wasn't a fan of her film title Chhapaak!: 'It grew on me later'

Deepika Padukone, the lead actor of the most awaited upcoming film, Chhapaak, attended a press conference today to promote the title track of their film. Co-star Vikrant Massey, director Meghna Gulzar, lyricist Gulzar, and musician Shankar Mahadevan joined her. Laxmi Agarwal, an acid attack survivor, and activist, on whom the movie was based were also present. During the launch, the actress revealed that the original title of the movie wasn't Chhapaak.

The actress also goes on to say that since the last couple of days, she has been spending a lot of time with Laxmi Agarwal as the movie is actually inspired by her life as an acid attack survivor. The two started addressing each other with their own names, that is to say, Laxmi used to call Deepika as Laxmi, and Deepika, on the other hand, used to call Laxmi as Malti.

Deepika goes on to say that the title for the movie was initially something else and that she wasn’t convinced with Chhapaak as the title but later it grew on her. She also said that when Meghna called her to tell her that they want to change the title, she wasn’t happy and asked Meghna as to why are they changing it.

Deepika also said that her depression spiraled during the shoot and that she had to call her counselor on set. The film Chhapaak is based on the life of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal, who got attacked in 2005 at the age of 15 and in the film, Deepika will portray the role of Malti. Meghna Gulzar, in an interview, had said that her original choice for the film was always Deepika Padukone.
