After Mahanati’s success, Tollywood has found a new proximity towards biopics. Last month, NTR Kathanayakudu hit the theatres on January 9. The film received mixed reviews and many pointed out that the film failed to show the negative side of late politician NT Rama Rao.
Following NTR Kathanayakudu, Mammootty’s Yatra released last week. The film isn’t a biopic but focusses on the iconic padayatra spearheaded by politician YS Rajashekar Reddy, which changed the course of politics in Andhra Pradesh.
Yatra is receiving mixed reviews and Director Mahi Raghav was appreciated for not including ‘massy moments.’ However, Yatra also glorified YSR as the best politician who can never go wrong.
It looks like Yatra and NTR Kathanayakudu trodden the same path which is why is why they suffered the same fate.
Probably, if the directors managed to show both sides of NTR and YSR, it would have been a balanced story. This is the exact reason why Mahanati turned out to be successful.
