Director Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1 earned Rs 230 crore in just three days worldwide. The film features Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Chiyaan Vikram, Trisha, Jayam Ravi, and Karthi in lead roles. Ponniyin Selvan is a period drama based on the popular Tamil literary novel of the same name, written by Kalki Krishnamurthy. The shooting of the period film went on for 150 days and wasn’t without any difficulties. During an interview with IndiaToday.in, Trisha revealed that she and Sobhita Dhulipala were injured during the film’s shoot, but continued to enjoy the process. While Trisha played the role of princess Kundavai, Sobhita Dhulipala was seen as Vanathi, who will marry prince Arunmozhivarman.
Speaking to the entertainment portal, Trisha said, “There is no time. That is the best part about this film. Had this been a film where I didn’t have these people around me, it would have been tougher. So, this was fun. Maybe her ears were bleeding and her arm was scratched, but we would chat in between shots and the same with each of us. We didn’t feel the pain of it at all. Sobhita added, “Also, I think when people paint a picture of an actress getting ready, I think they imagine her sitting back and sipping back on some cola and there is a village of people working around us. I don’t think it is so pleasant. No, but it is alright."
The second part of Ponniyin Selvan is currently in the post-production stage. During the press interaction, director Mani Ratnam said that the second part of the film will be released six to nine months after the release of the first part.
