U-T Director Pavan Kumar took to social media to help his industry colleagues. Kumar announced through a photo and video that he will be going live on his Instagram and YouTube pages to discuss the Kannada Film Industry amidst the Coronavirus Pandemic. He mainly wanted to address the question “what can be done to help the daily wage workers if film shoots remain shut for a month or so.” Kumar went live on his Instagram and YouTube pages several times on 22nd March 2002, the day of the Janata Curfew. To help the daily wage workers, Kumar decided to set up a UPI-ID to receive donations.
Through the course of the day, he spoke to several film personalities on his live stream. Actors like Diganth Manchale, Sharmila Mandre, Dhananjaya and Shraddha Srinath joined him in helping to spread his message through the day. Kumar and Shraddha Srinath read out one of Kumar's earlier scripts titled Romeo and Juliet.
Kumar posted a screenshot of the amount collected on 23rd March 2020. It was just a little under the 2 lack mark. Kumar stated that he will contribute a sum of 1 lakh if the contributions hit 2 lakhs. As of today, 433 people have contributed to the cause. A total amount of Rs. 4,58,776 has been collected. He has been consistently posting updated information about the fund.
Along with the details, Kumar added, “I am sure very soon, there will be a bigger funding process by the State. This fund will probably take care of immediate needs. Thank you for joining in and helping out.”
