Today is the sixth anniversary of Chowka and director Tarun has opened up on the film's impact on his career. The film, which starred Diganth, Prem, Prajwal Devraj, Chikkanna, Aindrita Ray, Bhavana, Priyamani, Avinash, and the late Kashinath, was a box office success.
“I will always be thankful to Chowka because whatever I am today, it’s because of that film. Back then I was a debutant and I know how tough it is to repose such immense trust in making a film of this scale in a newcomer. But Dwarskish Chitra, the production house backed by the legendary Dwarakish sir and Yogi, trusted me. And they gave me an opportunity to follow my dream of becoming a director,” shares Tharun Sudhir. He adds, “I may be doing big films today, but Chowka set the tone for everything I went on to do. It was the first step to establish myself in the industry.”
Chowka won Tharun the Filmfare award for the best film at the 65th Filmfare Awards South. And it also got him both critical and commercial success. The film had five music directors, five cameramen and five writers. “It was immense in every way and all my actors, technicians and of course the producers were extremely co-operative. Darshan sir appeared in a cameo to further lend his support. And the audiences were in for a treat with this special gesture by him,” shares the director.
Meanwhile, Tharun is directing the actor in the upcoming D 56. He previously collaborated with Darshan on Roberrt. Radhana Ram, the daughter of Malashree and Ramu, makes her Kannada film debut in this film.
