Ajith's "Thunivu" and Vijay's "Varisu'' are set to duel at the box office. It is happening for the first time in eight years. The release is set for the occasion of Pongal (Jan. 12). Both movies have a sizable following abroad. On January 11 at 7:40 PM (which is 1 AM on January 12) IST), they will have their UK premieres. The producers have decided for early morning performances in Tamil Nadu, their native state. But, it won't be that early on January 12.
According to reports, the Tamil Nadu cinema exhibitors have moved to ask the state government for permission to hold 1 AM screenings. So that the Tamil Nadu public can watch the movie at the same time as the UK audience. From January 12 to January 18, the exhibitors will ask for authorization to hold these early morning presentations.
Bookings have started for the UK premieres of "Thunivu" and "Varisu." If the exhibitors succeed, the attempt for earlier release, Tamil Nadu audiences could watch both blockbuster films right away. Nothing seemed to be able to stop the creators of "Thunivu" and "Varisu," not even the time zone disparities! Both the teaser and the trailer for these movies have not yet been released.
The Vamshi Paidipally-directed movie "Varisu," stars Vijay and Rashmika Mandanna in the key roles. It is described as a family drama containing romance, humour, and action scenes. On the other hand, H Vinoth's film "Thunivu," stars Ajith in dual roles. It is the director's third consecutive feature with the actor. The film is an action thriller.
