The recently released song O Sajna by Neha Kakkar is a version of the well-known and enduring classic "Maine Payal Hai Chhankai" by Falguni Pathak. The social media coverage of this song by Neha Kakkar has drawn a lot of criticism, and Falguni Pathak has also voiced her displeasure with it. Falguni reposted the comments from the fans on her own Instagram stories as several fans slammed Neha for 'ruining' the original song. Now, amid the ongoing dispute with Neha Kakkar, Falguni Pathak spoke once more about song remakes and remixes. In a recent interview, she made it clear that while she is okay with her songs being reproduced, they must be done properly.
When asked on Mirchi Plus if she had seen Neha's music video O Sajna, Falguni Pathak said that she hadn't yet, but that she will. She continued by expressing her opinion on song adaption, saying, “Adapt karo lekin acchi tarike se karo. Remixes ban rahe hai aajkal aur acche bhi ban rahe hai jo humlog bhi stage pe gaate hai. Lekin usko acchi tarah se use karo na. Tum usko faltu kyu bana dete ho (Adapt but do it well. There are so many remixes being made well and even we sing it on stage. But do it well. Why do you spoil it)?”
She continued by saying that even though Maine Payal Hai Chhankai was released decades ago, it is still very fresh and evokes the same response today as it did back when it was originally shown. “Usko recreate karo, usme alag rhythm do, make it modern lekin achi tarike se karo na. Uski jo beauty hai, jo simplicity hai usko mat touch karo (Recreate it, give it a different rhythm, make it modern but do it well. Don't touch the beauty and simplicity of the song),” Falguni said.
Falguni Pathak claimed in an interview that the O Sajna song's recreators had not contacted her. She continued by saying that although she wished she had the legal option, she didn't have those rights.
