James Michael Tyler, popularly known for playing Gunther in the American sitcom FRIENDS, shared a tragic news recently. In conversation with Today's Craig Melvin, Tyler reveals being diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer which has increased with time. "Initially I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in September 2018," said Tyler. "I was 56 years old at the time, and they screen for PSA, which is prostate-specific antigen."
Adding further, "That came back at an extraordinarily high number. So I knew immediately when I went online and I saw the results of my blood test and blood work that there was obviously something quite wrong there. Nearly immediately, my doctor called me and said, 'Hey, I need you to come in tomorrow because I suspect that you may have quite a serious problem with your prostate." Unfortunately, Tyler fears that this stage of his disease is probably gonna get him. "Late stage cancer. So eventually, you know, it's gonna probably get me," he concluded.
James Michael Tyler recently appeared on the FRIENDS Reunion special where he conversed with everyone through a video call.
The actor further revealed that his cancer progressed during the time of the pandemic as he missed going for his test during that time. FRIENDS was a 1994 comedy show that ran for almost ten years. The show starred Jennifer Anniston, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, Courtenay Cox, Lisa Kudrow and Mathew Perry in the lead roles.
