Gandharv Dewan Gets Candid About His Alma Mater Kirori Mal College

Gandharv Dewan, an actor known for his roles in movies like The Zoya Factor and Shiddat, recently visited his alma mater, Kirori Mal College (KMC) at Delhi University. Dewan, an English (Hons) graduate of the 2011 batch, took a walk down memory lane and revisited his college days. He visited the iconic "Players Stairs," where he enjoyed a plate of dal makhani-chawal, just like he used to back in the day.

Dewan found his niche in KMC's theatre society, The Players, despite having poor marks. He recalls visiting other colleges for theatre auditions and being told that those colleges were the "second-best of DU." This fueled his curiosity about the best theatre society, which he discovered was The Players at KMC. "KMC might not be a posh college, but what's incredible is the value given to cultural activities. It is my place of worship," Dewan says.

The actor reminisced about his tryst with theatre in college and how the auditorium was his "happy space." He spent 48 hours straight in the auditorium once, with three plays being performed back-to-back. He fondly remembers the determination of the students and the passion they had for theatre. In his final year, Dewan's team organized a fest called Kabadkhana to bring attention to the state of the auditorium.

Dewan also spoke about the bond KMC alumni share, even outside of campus. He met Divyenndu, another KMC alumnus, on set once and was pleasantly surprised by how kind and helpful he was. "Our wealth is this legacy. The alumni community is also so close-knit. That's rare," Dewan says.

Overall, Dewan's visit to his alma mater was filled with nostalgia and fond memories. He hopes to see the revamped auditorium soon and continue to be a part of KMC's close-knit alumni community.
