Seven years after the release of the trend-setter Premam, Gold was the film that got huge pre-release hype as it was directed by Alphonse Putra. But the film received bad word-of-mouth publicity from the day of its release. This is due to as it was not the kind of film expected by the majority of the audience. Apart from playing the lead role in the film, Prithviraj was also the co-producer. Now he is informing me that the film will not work in theatres. Prithviraj was answering a question at a press conference as part of the promotion of his new film, Kaapa, directed by Shaji Kailas.
A journalist asked if Prithviraj Productions had a hat-trick of success in theatres this year. They added that is why the Income Tax Department raided the production company. But Prithvi's reply was that Gold is not among them. At the same time, Prithviraj said that even though the film was not successful in the theatres, it made a profit for them. "Gold did not work; but we got a profit. That is the truth," was Prithvi's reply. Prithviraj said that the second question should be asked of the Income Tax Department.
On the other hand, after the success of Kaduva, Shaji Kailas and Prithviraj reunite for Kaapa. Based on GR Indugopan's famous novel Shankhumukhi, the film is action-packed. Indu Gopan himself has written the screenplay. The film also has the distinction of being produced by the FEFCA Writers Union. Produced by Sarigama India Pvt Ltd and Theater of Dreams in partnership with Jinu V Abraham, Dolvin Kuriakos, and Dileesh Nair, the film is set to release on December 22.
