Gollapudi Maruthi Rao is no more

Renowned actor, playwright, and director Gollapudi Maruthi Rao passed away this afternoon in a private hospital in Chennai. The veteran actor was undergoing the treatment for age-related issues from the last few days. He breathed his last at around 12 pm this afternoon.

 
Maruthi Rao was born in Vizianagaram in the year 1939. The 80-year-old actor started off his career as a theatre artist and soon ventured into cinema. He is not only known for his roles but also for his exemplary writing and directorial works. He debuted as an actor with the film Intlo Ramayya Veedhilo Krishnayya, which has Chiranjeevi and Madhavi in the lead roles. Maruthi Rao also penned the dialogues for it.
 
He is best known for his versatile roles in the films Kallu, Samsaram O Chadarangam and Challenge. Maruthi Rao has acted in more than 250 films, wrote several novels, directed many plays and movies, in a career spanning of almost four decades.
 
Not only the Telugu film industry but also the entire Telugu community was quite shocked by the demise of the actor. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy, ex-Chief Minister N. Chandra Babu Naidu, Lokesh, actor Mahesh Babu, Nani, Allari Naresh, and many other celebrities have paid their condolences to Maruthi Rao's family.
