In the Telugu film industry, we rarely see commercial film directors experimenting with various genres. Gunasekhar is one such director who likes to juggle with various genres. Thus, his filmography got filled with various kinds of films. Manoharam is one film which remains special in Gunasekhar's career. This patriotic drama celebrates 20 years of its release today. Manoharam had hit the screens on 13th May 2000. It featured Jagapathi Babu and Laya in the lead roles. The film deals with the story of a bank employee who gets mistaken as a terrorist by the police. How his wife tries to prove him as innocent is the main crux of the film. The movie runs on an emotional note right from the beginning to the end. It is not like a regular flick with commercial elements. Gunasekhar tried to be different in projecting the screenplay of it. Jagapathi Babu and Laya gave their best in their respective roles. Prakash Raj played an important character in the film.
The music of the film got composed by Mani Sharma and the editing got handled by Sreekar Prasad. The background score of the film got good appreciation from the critics and audiences as well. Manoharam opened to positive reviews and became a hit at the box office.
It also won four Nandi Awards. The film got awarded with Bronze Prize (Third Best Film). Jagapathi Babu won Best Actor, Laya won Best Actress and Sreekar Prasad won the Best Editor Award.
