Born as Bhakta Vatsalam Naidu, Mohan Babu made his debut by acting in a small role in the 1974 film Kannavari Kalalu. Mohan Babu's first breakthrough as an actor came with 1975 film Swargam Narakam. The film got directed by his mentor Dasari Narayana Rao. After that, Mohan Babu went on to act in supporting roles in many films. Some of them are Athavarillu, Bhale Dongalu, and Kurukshetram. Mohan Babu then became a lead hero and scored successes with the films like Khaidi Kalidasu, Ketugadu, Gruhapravesham, Assembly Rowdy, Alludu Garu, Rowdy Alludu and Allari Mogudu.
Mohan Babu claimed the stardom by scoring massive blockbusters like Major Chandrakanth, Kodama Simham, Brahma, M. Dharmaraju MA, Pedarayudu, Detective Narada, Soggadi Pellam, Rayudu and Rayalaseema Ramanna Chowdary. In fact, Pedarayudu was an industry hit during those times.
