One of the phenomenal actors of Indian cinema is Mohanlal. In a career spanning over four decades, Mohanlal has acted in more than 340 films. He is a superstar in the Malayalam film industry. This prolific actor turns 60 today. On this occasion, here is a look back into his career.
Mohanlal was born in Elanthoor village of Kerala. He grew up in Thiruvananthapuram. He used to act in stage plays during his school and college days. Mohanlal was a state wrestling champion as well. He made his debut with the 1978 film Thiranottam. Unfortunately, it released after 25 years. Mohanlal got a breakthrough with the 1980 film Manjil Virinja Pookkal. He played the role of an antagonist in it. Till 1985, Mohanlal mostly acted in negative and supporting roles.
In the late 90s, he emerged as a star by acting in a series of hit films. He received his first National Award for the film Kireedam. Later, he won it again for Bharatham (1991), Vanaprastham (1999) and Janata Garage, Pulimurugan and Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol (Jury Award-2016). He won Kerala State Award nine times for films like T.P. Balagopalan MA, Abhimanyu, Spadikam, Kaalapani, Vanaprastham, Thanmathra and Paradesi. He won 11 Filmfare awards in his career. Mohanlal got conferred with Padma Bhushan in 2019.
His 2019 film Lucifer remains as an industry hit in Kerala. His next release will be the period drama Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham. Directed by Priyadarshan, this film was originally slated for the release on March 25. But it got postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The new release date will get announced soon.
