HBO has announced that it is now working on developing a new show based on the hit horror zombie game ' The Last of Us. '
Craig Mazin who is also the creator of the highly acclaimed show Chernobyl is going to script the television adaptation. Maxin will join in by Neil Druckmann, who is the creative director of the original game.
The show is directly influenced by the sequence of events as they take place in the game. The game is set in the dystopian USA where the majority of people infected by a deadly zombie virus. Joel, who is one of the survivors comes in contact with a little girl called Ellie. Ellie can resist the effects of the virus and the rest of the game follows Joel and Ellie trying to get to a quarantine facility.
The original game received a lot of praise for its bleak but realistic storyline. The game was also praised for its tone and style. The Last of Us first came out on 14th June 2013. The game is also scheduled to drop a sequel very soon. Neil Druckmann is also the creative head for the game's upcoming sequel.
Chris Parnell, the co-president of Sony Pictures Television Studios in an interview with the Hollywood reporter said, "This is the first of many shows we intend to develop with our friends at PlayStation Productions...The Last of Us is a brilliant achievement in storytelling and character development, and we are lucky to have the opportunity to work with this team to adapt it.”
